Meet the Music Crew Behind Music Crew
Music Crew was created by the team at Dimensions Curriculum: education specialists with decades of experience designing primary curricula that work in real classrooms. Again and again, schools told us the same thing: music was the subject they felt least confident teaching. Music Crew grew out of that reality.

Because Every Teacher Deserves to Feel Confident Teaching Music
For years, we worked with primary schools both across the UK and internationally, and the same conversation kept coming up. Talented, dedicated teachers would quietly admit they dreaded music lessons.
Not because they didn’t care, but because they’d never been trained in music and didn’t know where to start.
They’d cobble together activities from YouTube, worry about Ofsted, and feel guilty that their pupils weren’t getting the music education they deserved.
We realised the problem wasn’t the teachers – it was the lacklustre resources they were using and lack of engaging training available to them. Existing music schemes either assumed musical expertise teachers didn’t have, or offered vague ideas without real structure.
Teachers needed something completely different: a genuinely complete system that held their hand through every lesson, taught them alongside their pupils, and made music teaching feel rewarding rather than terrifying.
That insight shaped every decision we made when designing and building Music Crew.
We weren’t interested in being just another scheme; we wanted something that genuinely supported teachers, lesson by lesson, and made music teaching feel achievable.
Built on Solid Educational Principles, Not Guesswork
Music Crew isn’t a collection of random activities. It’s a carefully designed curriculum built on proven educational principles. Every unit, every lesson, every activity has been deliberately sequenced to ensure pupils build genuine musical understanding over time.
We use spiralled learning, where concepts are introduced, revisited, and deepened across the years. Pupils don’t just learn isolated facts; they develop interconnected knowledge that sticks. Musical elements like rhythm, pitch, and dynamics are woven throughout, so pupils see how everything connects and builds on what came before.
Progression is baked into the structure and at age-appropriate level. Reception pupils explore sounds through play. Year 1 pupils learn to identify and name instruments. By Year 6, they’re analysing composers, understanding musical forms, and creating compelling compositions. Each step is achievable, building confidence while genuinely advancing their skills.
And crucially, we’ve designed it for real classrooms. We know what actually works when you’ve got 30 pupils, limited resources, and 45 minutes. Every lesson has been tested, refined, and proven to deliver results with non-specialist teachers at the helm.
Part of a Bigger Picture
Music Crew is created by Dimensions Curriculum, a team that’s been designing award-winning primary curricula since 2007. We’re the people behind Learning Means the World, a whole-school curriculum used by hundreds of primary schools across the UK and internationally.
Our expertise is in creating curricula that make sense – where subjects connect, knowledge builds logically, and teachers actually enjoy engaging with the content. We understand how to sequence learning, how to make abstract ideas accessible, and how to design resources that work in real classrooms with real constraints.
When schools choose Music Crew, they’re not taking a punt on an untested product. They’re getting a music curriculum designed by a team with a proven track record of helping primary schools deliver outstanding education. The same rigorous approach, careful sequencing, and practical design that makes our other curricula work is exactly what makes Music Crew different.
What Real Teachers Are Saying
“As a non-music specialist, I have been surprised at how easy it is to follow. It gives me clear guidance and structure to enable me to teach music lessons effectively. I would highly recommend this music scheme, as I now feel I have much more confidence in teaching music.“
